Info: Kolkata is the capital of state of West Bengal.It is also known as cultura capital of india.Although I do come from an area close to Kolkata:Hooghly,but I never had a chance to experience Kolkata to that extent. Population:exceeding 15 million,3rd populous metropolitan city in India.It was uptil 1912 the capital if British india. History: With the arrival of East India Company in 1690,Job Charnock an administrator of the company founded or was accredited for founding it.Kolkata was then under Nawab Siraj ad dowlaIt was in fact three villages:Kalikata, Gobindapur and Sutanuti.The name Calcutta was given formally by the British and was changed to Kolkata in 2001.Well a better explaination is given Wikipedia.:Info about Kolkata. There are some parts I did not know:Chandraketugarh is in Kolkata.Well if I did I would have visited it.:Chandraketugarh Historical places to Visit:

  • Pandua--It is located 18 km from Malda town.
Getting there: By train It is about 7-8 hours from Kolkata. All trains going to North Bengal stop at Malda. Convenient connections – Gour Express from Sealdah, Janshatabdi and Intercity Express from Howrah. [edit] By bus Rocket service from Esplanade for Siliguri. [edit] By car The normal route is to take NH 34, which links Siliguri with Kolkata, but the longer route via Durgapur Expressway from Dankuni, Grand Trunk Road from Saktigarh to Panagarh bypassing Bardhaman town, and then taking the Panagarh-Moregarm Expressway up to Morgram on NH 34 is a more comfortable and enjoyable option. ref:From Howrah to Pandua.
