It has been a month since arriving in Australia and I can just say the experience is something that really makes you learn a lot about yourself and thereby improve/adapt to your new changed beliefs.I've come across a lot of people during this time ---most of them --people who are outside the circle of people you are used to since childhood and I can just say you learn a new meaning to what you can learn from them.
Maybe another day I'll describe them but for now what's important when making a shift to a new country as it is for me is getting a job to feed you,and house you.

  • For housing just in case you don't know any people around in Australia or you don't feel like getting stuck with people you don't like you can go for shared accommodation by going to the site http://sydney.gumtree.com.au/.In it jobs/housing any queries about anything are advertised. Ozzy version of Craigslist.

Next comes how you can go about getting a way of earning money.

  • Some of the easiest ways are working in restaurants,or join a Barista by joining Coffee College. There are many outlets which offer many kinds of coffee and important thing is how you handle the machine and how you serve and Standard rate is $3 just for a Cappacino. There are Sales jobs offered by privately owned Solar companies or just people who want to go solo where they drastically reduce the price of a solar installation by RECs(Renewable Energy Certificates).Something like a stock exchange thing. In these you are paid by commission ranging anything from $50 per signature----somehow with your wit and humour you have to make your customers sign into the dotted line of the contract. This rate increases depending on what you sell. But then if you really want to change your personality and want to have a go into honing your people's skills then there's nothing like this where you have to play with the psychology of people around you-----in the long run if you think about it ---this might serve you well in the interviews. These jobs usually require to learn how to drive and make it a point of getting your drivers license first of which you have to pass the DKT.
  • Then there are the old fashioned ways of searching for jobs two of which commonly used sites are www.seek.com.au,www.CareerOne.com.au,then there are others of course you just google .
  • There are recruiting agencies where you have to register as per your skills and pray each day they'll call you.Or you can bug them each day if you have nothing to do till they get a job for you just to get rid of you.
  • Another way are through the social networking sites like LinkedIn.You need to have an account there and and add people you want to know who can or might help and just click .
  • Then there are alumni networks of your respective school or college or university and look into the names of people registered and google them to find out where they are and if they have already provided you with their contact details then thats all great. Just contact them and make sure you read up something about their line of work so they know you're serious about your career.
  • If you have qualms working as a waitress or a labourer,do away with those feelings and just think this is just a means of getting your next bread ---because here you've got no family to help you out .But then there are some very helpful people who you can meet maybe at a bus stop while waiting for the bus where an elderly stranger from Sri Lanka will just offer you $50 when he hears you are new to the country and looking for a job.
  • With stuff being expensive here there are some kinds of jobs that can be outsourced to your land for cheap and you can do real great business.
  • Get in touch with your or any community Network Groups---it helps sometimes.

There are other certifications you can go for like CCNA or ISTQB which increases your marketability in Neworking and IT area and I would say just go for them instead of wasting time..
There is no easy way or the correct way to finding the job you just have to try everything and learn from them you never know what clicks.
